  • A Maths Dictionary For Kids - Animated interactive definitions for over 500 terms.  Each explanation contains a quick practice opportunity.
  • Algebra Help - Designed by a middle school student who was bored in Algebra class; site provides easy-to-understand, straight-forward explanations of algebraic concepts.  Contains worksheets, lessons, and calculators for use by teachers and students.  Limited animation and Java use, this site works well with older technology!!
  • Archimedes' Laboratory - Brain teasers and puzzles revolving around logic and math.  Monthly puzzles, optical illusions, tangrams, prime numbers and numerous other options.
  • Cool Math 4 Kids - includes classic Lemonade Stand game, a number of jigsaw puzzles with varying levels of complexity, brain benders, etc.
  • Illuminations - Resources gathered by the National Council of Teachers of mathematics; contains 96 online activities and 528 lessons.
  • Interactivate - Portal to over 100 interactive Java-based activities designed to help learners of all ages to improve their math skills.  Each activity comprises a learner instruction page, a help feature and a teacher page, which includes ties to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards and some textbook correlations.
  • MegaMath - Designed to make discoveries in the world of mathematics accessible to elementary school children.  Activities based on coloring, maps, graphs, knots, and various other concepts are included.  Each activity includes background knowledge, vocabulary, preparation and materials needed, NCTM standards, activities, evaluation strategies and ideas for further study.
  • Math for Morons Like Us - Another marvelous example of student-produced web sites.  Part of ThinkQuest competition, site includes tutorials on prealgebra, algebra, geometry, algebra II, precalculus and calculus.  Review quizzes, formula database, information for teachers and links to additional math resources.

  • American Museum of Natural History - Current research about the natural world.

  • Education Planet - "Quickly search online educational resources including over 80,000 teacher reviewed online lessons".

  • Family Education – This site, which is broken down by grades, includes printable books, African-American Heroes Worksheets, literature quizzes, etc.  It would also be worth-while bookmarking for use in other subject areas!

  • Funbrain - Educational game site enforces math and grammar skills with games like Operation Order, Math Baseball and Grammar Gorillas.

  • Google for Educators - New site recommended by Mrs. D'Alfonso.

  • Kids Directory - A website that has links to pages on Animals & Nature, Computers & Games, Geography, History, etc.

  • National Geographic Kids Games - Check this one out!!!! Games include Geospy, recognizing states, provinces, countries and continents by shape; quizzes, wordsearches and other games/interactive activities too numerous to list.

  • National Geographic Kids Games - Updated weekly, the following blogs from Reading Rockets offer insight into the best practices in reading instruction and using books effectively both inside and outside of the classroom. These are open blogs, so feel free to agree, disagree, and voice your opinion about either of the blogs below. Happy blogging!

  • PBS Teachers - PBS Teachers provides PreK-12 educational resources and activities for educators tied to PBS programming and correlated to local and national standards and professional development opportunities delivered online.

  • See the USA Through Books - Reading ideas presented on a monthly basis.

  • Shockwave - Not every game here is educational. Click on the Mind Games link for puzzlers, strategy games and word games. Standouts include Diner Dash, Chicktionary and a variety of Scrabble spin-offs.  

  • Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators** - The website states: "Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators is a categorized list of sites useful for enhancing curriculum and professional growth. It is updated often to include the best sites for teaching and learning."  I was told about this site in 1995, when it was first on the web and it's still one of the most comprehensive teacher resources around.

  • Technology Tips for Classroom Teachers - Articles, handouts, tutorials, powerpoints, etc. 

  • Web Search Strategies - a powerpoint presentation on how to search the web effectively
