Basic Microsoft
Page Set Up:
Double Space: Format >
Paragraph > Line Spacing > Double (use arrow down to find it).
Margins - to change: Go to File > Page Set Up > Change
Margins > you may type in a number or use the arrows to change the number up or
down.
Paper Layout: Go to File > Page Set Up > Click on Orientation
> Portrait is normal setting.
Page Numbers: To format
page numbers that are consecutive (1, 2, 3, etc) on your pages: View >
Header/Footer > Insert Page Number.
Page Numbers Alignment:
After inserting your page number, use the alignment (usually found on the upper
right hand of your toolbar) feature to move the number to the center or to the
left.
Print Preview: File > Page Set Up > Click on Print Preview -
this will show you how your paper will look when it is printed out.
Protecting Document:
This function will stop anyone - except you - from changing your document.
Tools > Protect Document > Forms > OK. DO NOT use a password unless you A)
Know what you are doing, B) Will never forget your password. You can not
retrieve the password document once the password has been set. I
have used this function on this page.
Word Count: Tools
> Word Count - will tell you how many words you have typed. Remember - it
also counts your name, date, etc., so be careful.
Fonts
Research papers generally use a #12 Font, with a font style of
Times New Roman, Verdana or Tahoma. You may change this information by using the
arrows associated with it in the toolbar; if your toolbar is missing you may
change it by going to: Format > Font.
Toolbar
If you are missing a toolbar on your page you can add it by
going to View > Toolbar. This will generate a list of toolbars to choose
from. Make note of what is already checked off before changing anything.
